After more than 20 years on Tejon Street in the historic DeGraff Building, Walston Group Real Estate has new headquarters! Most of our clients know how much we love older homes, and this 1910 bungalow captured our hearts when we saw the 'For Sale' sign during a covid-era neighborhood walkabout. A local financial planner had officed in the building for 30+ years, and they hadn't changed much (thankfully). While it didn't even have a kitchen and the yard was bare dirt, our team recognized its potential immediately. The building had amazing bones including unpainted interior trim and wood beamed ceilings, original divided light windows, Fir flooring and large, comfortable rooms.
After a short stint as the Colorado College volleyball house for Janelle's granddaughter, we set to work preserving and updating where necessary. It got new gutters, fresh exterior paint, patched stucco, new stone entry stairs and porch flooring and major landscaping. On the inside we updated the electrical panel, got rid of the knob and tube wiring, installed new furnace and water heater, put up new light fixtures, painted walls, and re-finished the original floors. The new kitchen and our coffee bar area with hand-painted limestone tile is a favorite hang out space for everyone. Both baths were updated with period-appropriate marble tile, subway wainscoting and polished nickel fixtures. Luckily we have a preservation specialist as part of the team, and we love a good project. The end result has been well worth all the effort.
